Our Story

Hi team, My name is Rob and I am the Club Manager of Anytime Fitness St Kilda. Suicide prevention and awareness along with other mental health awareness is very important to me. After a number of years of service with the Australian Army, and not to long after discharge I found my life spiraling out of control and into an unwanted world of stress and anxiety. I found it hard to talk to anyone close to me about my mental issues and I began to think how easy it would be with everything if I just wasn't around anymore. With 2 serious attempts on my life I began to think maybe I do in fact have a purpose to be here, after all I am a father and if it was't for the mental images of my children and knowing I was leaving them behind along with the support and love from those close to me I doubt I would be here today writing this. Slowly I was able to rise out of my slump and I got the help and support I needed. Sadly for many Australian's though this is not the case and their lives are cut way too short, because of the lack of support and awareness in this country. But now it is organisations like Suicide Prevention Australia who are finally standing up for those who sadly get left behind and don't have that extra help that some do. Suicide is one of the leading causes of death among young Australians. For every death by suicide, it is estimated that as many as 30 people attempt to end their live that is approximately 65,300 suicide attempts each year. For the ones who do tragically leave us it ends up being too late with lives that were cut way to short and lives that had far more purpose, But it's with all those failed attempts that must not go un-noticed and where we as a nation can stand up and fight to help those people and give them the support and love they all need. The purpose of life is to contribute in some way to making things better and this is our opportunity to make things better for those who desperately need it.

So I pledge to you all - "WE MAKE A LIVING FROM WHAT WE GET, BUT WE MAKE A LIFE FROM WHAT WE GIVE". So I ask, please donate for a great cause that helps and fights to prevent lives from tragically being cut short when those lives have far more to give this world.
